Mike Hayes is the 2020/2021 head coach for Compuware’s 12U fastpitch softball team. Coach Mike has been involved in sports for over 35 years with his favorite always being baseball. He played 6 years of travel baseball, was a 4-year varsity player in high school and played baseball for 3 years at Madonna University. Coach Mike was Madonna's closer as a freshman and later moved into a starting role within their rotation where he pitched a no-hitter. Coach Mike continued to compete after college while playing travel softball. Mike earned Player of Year recognition twice in his career. In 2017 Mike's team was ranked #1 in the country after winning the Softball World Series.
Coach Mike has coached multiple years of CYO boy’s baseball and has continually helped his daughters and step-daughters during their fastpitch softball seasons. Mike enjoys studying the game of baseball/softball, teaching his athletes to play smart, and creating a competitive positive team-centric atmosphere.
Mike believes that all fastpitch players should master the fundamentals which is accomplished through high-energy engaging softball drills. Mike’s vision includes:
(1) focusing on the goal of continuous improvement, to get better every day,
(2) preparing girls to play varsity HS softball as freshman,
(3) training the girls to be the most skilled and fundamentally sound team of softball athletes.
Coach Mike grew up in Redford, MI and now calls Livonia his home. Mike is a huge Tigers fan and can’t wait for the Tigers to get back to the World Series.
Coach Mike is a dad/step-dad of 5 kids, 4 of them being girls ages 9-15, so he has learned to master the life skills of patience, listening, and understanding. He enjoys teaching kids to excel and just loves the game.
Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in history education from Madonna University.
